Living our Faith through Service

Service Activities
Our Lady of Lourdes 2010-2011 service activities focus on seven cardinal virtues:
Faith, Prudence, Justice, Hope, Charity/Love, Temperance, and Fortitude.

Staff service committee members plan projects and activities designed to include a combination of school-wide on-campus activities, individual class activities, and off-campus projects to expose students to
hands-onvolunteer work in the community. Ideally, a school-wide, on-campus project will be paired with an off-campus activity such as a food/clothing drive for Saint Vincent De Paul combined with a visit to the SVDP facility to deliver and help sort clothing. Student Council supports service activities with assemblies to explain the need for the activity and get students excited to participate.

Planned group service projects and activities for 2010-2011include:
October walk-n-knock for canned food and a trip to St.Vincent dePaul to deliver the food.
November canned food/used clothing drive for the Sunshine Division of Portland Police (Hope for the Holidays).
January hot cocoa sale for Healing Hands for Haiti.
February making and delivering valentines to the Veteran's Hospital.
March Rice Bowl competition.
May visit to Doernbecher Children's Hospital with cards and books.
Ongoing - Visits to Discovery Nursing and Rehab facility on the third Thursday of the month during the school year.
